If that was the case then soccer/football, the world's most popular sport would have a major presence on prime time American TV screens (major networks). American ballers and their skillset are the prime motivators of the popularity of the NBA globally and I admit with a healthy sprinkling of top notch Euro players in the league . I remember reading a story that Chinese fans wanted real NBA gear(jerseys) when Jeremy Lin was sizzling with the Knicks and would eschew the purchase knock-offs which is a popular market in their country. And lets not forget, Marbury has a statute in his honor while still playing the game. A global ambassador of the sport.

Stephon Marbury escaped the New York Knicks and is thriving with the Beijing Ducks, the reigning Chinese champions.

China's NBA Love Affair | The Diploma

Of course, the most revered basketball player in China isn't Yao Ming, even during his playing days, but Kobe Bryant, whose popularity in China far exceeds that in the U.S.
I'm confused as to how any of this is relevant to my quote that you've highlighted.

You're suggesting that players will develop only one aspect of their game to push for max contracts? How does that even make sense?

Paying an individual player $50m while splitting the rest of the $17m among 11 players will definitely mess up a team's books. You will field a highly uncompetitive team with also-rans that nobody wants to watch. Now as for when the new CBA kicks in, the players at the very top will be getting exorbitant salaries, and maybe you'll be pleased then, but the role players can also expect a salary bump - that's unavoidable per the market forces.

I am not suggesting anything. I asked a question. What incentive do players have to be truly special if just being pretty good gets you the same money?

Which one is it breh? Will it mess up the books or fukk up the team?

Once again I never said I had an issue with role players getting more money, only with the best of the best being limited.

Uhh.. No.. You're an employee....... NBA players are more like commodities than anything.... Don't compare your situation to theirs.... They drive the product..... not the owners.... always have, always will
Commodities drive the product huh? :skip:

When was the last time a commodity was given a SALARY?

Do you people even think sometimes?

Yup, the players ARE the product, not just the "workers"

your point is that TV is making the NBA popular, mine is the players are the prime movers of the popularity. nothing to get confused about.
Lol.. wtf..

TV is a broadcasting medium. Without such a medium (and online streaming) you would only be able to watch the game live in arenas or listen to it on radio like the fukking 1920s. Of course increased access to the content improves its popularity. Seriously wtf is going on here?

The players are the EMPLOYEES (some could term assets). They are salaried individuals under a company.

The product is the game you watch on TV with your nikkas round the way.

They are the core components of the product you see on TV, so yes, they are the product.

Not every player is in the game for the objective of max contracts. There are some who want to carve a legacy out for themselves in NBA history and win championships.

And it is messing up the books and messing up the team. When you see a decrease in revenue from ticket sales it leads to a decrease in profitability. When people are not enthused to watch a team perform, its revenue streams decrease (unless they are from a major market).
