So you should get punished for selecting Kwame Brown at #1?

It defeats the purpose of the worst team getting the #1 pick if they can game the system and get top picks repeatedly. Of course teams can fukk up anyway and not win shyt like the Sixers

But they get no benefit from tanking. So they are tanking just to tank and running the risk of getting the last lotto pick as well. At least with this system there is no incentive to be ass.

And if you really wanna push it, I say weigh it in favor of the mid teams. That guarantees that everybody is trying to at least be competitive.

I think situations like the Mavs resting Kyrie and Luka the last two games to avoid the play in and go to the lottery should’ve resulted in Dallas losing the FIRST round pick. If that’s also a part of it then your idea could work.

Not being able to get a top 5 in consecutive years is the easiest (not perfect but whatever)

Locking in the lottery by march 1 does nothing…it actually gives the bad teams more reason to not give a fukk the last month or so since they already know their fate :russ:

If they are consistently ass then it doesn’t matter that they got the first pick every year though. They need to get rid of their FO, and try again.

many of the teams that are consistently ass haven't even had a 1st round pick in over a decade

the last time the wizards picked #1 was john wall :unimpressed: utah has literally never picked 1st

Give every team that doesn't make the playoffs the same draft odds. Teams will play hard as fukk, and we'll see what they're really capable of. Fans will be more invested. Any form of tanking will be completely dead. If bad teams stay bad, fukk em, make management changes.

That is true. 86/100 someone else other than the worst team will get the #1 pic in repeated sampling.

But it’s a 100% chance that you get a top 5 pick. And as we know top 5 guys used to fill a majority of the starting positions in the league. But having a starting quality player does not mean that he’ll be Dylan. It’s picking Dylan that’s the hard job.

So I mean, tanking to the worst will give you a top 5, but the probability of getting #1 is still small although as big or bigger than anyone else’s. So tanking for #1 really doesn’t matter as statistics rely on the concept of repeated sampling.

But I guess that it might become more important with a hard cap, as going into the FA market instead of drafting a starter will not be as easy

Isn't the lottery already there to prevent tanking?

Yeah…it was created in large part because the Rockets tanked to get Olajuwon.

They had gotten the #1 pick the previous year to get Ralph Sampson and apparently were pretty blatant in their tanking late in the 83-84 season to get Olajuwon.

It’s interesting to think how history would have been different if Ewing had left after his junior year like MJ, Olajuwon, and Barkley did in 84’

I loved the idea of the day you become mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, from that point every game won counts towards your draft position. So that by the end of the season the draft order is determined in order of total wins after being eliminated. That would give the really bad teams motivation to still try and win every game possible. Only potential downside would be teams tanking earlier in the year and then going hard once eliminated.

Rotate the picks each year. Break the teams into thirds. Teams 1-10 gets a lottery for picks 1-10 in year one. Year two, they have a lottery for picks 11-20. Year three they have a lottery for picks 21-30. Honestly, the lottery shouldn’t be based on odds neither. If you’re a shytty ran team you shouldn’t be rewarded. Also, bring back the lottery balls. Ten balls floating around would be fun to see again.

:patrice:
Every third year, you get a shot at a top ten pick. Good or bad teams, the draft is a crap shoot anyway. shytty GMs will pick bad regardless of position.
:manny:
Side note: Did New Orleans have it right all along? Still should have protected that pick.

You cannot really blame the teams when the League itself has corrupted the draft. Cavs had 3 #1 picks in 4 years.

Exactly.

They already know who they want to give the damn pick to so what’s the point of so called draft reform.

Need to literally have a 2 year old baby pick the top 5 draft order out of a glass bowl on a live stream
