Yeah it's obvious he was going for this. I dont think it'll go straight to combining the playoffs, it'll start with the NBA Cup. That for sure will end up being adding NBA Europe teams. I'm in favor of that
NBA fans don't care about the NBA Cup with just NBA teams. When KK Partizan plays the Indiana Pacers for the NBA Cup, NBA fans are gonna tune out

It's an idea that means well, but I don't know how Silver's gonna force feed overseas teams to us. Having overseas teams on American screens is just gonna be one long episode of "Who He Play For"

It's not gonna be KK Partizan though. It's gonna be all the big branded european soccer teams.

With big investment you might start seeing some NBA starters go play for NBA Europe teams.

NBA fans might tune out but I bet the international ratings, jersey sales, etc will go crazy. Eventually American fans will get used to it.

Americans like European domestic football because it’s the best players in the world competing on iconic teams.

The best players in the world play in the NBA.

I will never understand why Silver seems to miss that. Americans have no interest in Real Madrid Baloncesto and the NBA is already a draw and televised in Europe.

I think Silver is trying to kill European domestic basketball.

That’s my thing.

Is the idea to make players who leave the NBA or can no longer make an NBA roster go this league instead of other leagues in Europe and Asia?

If so, will they match the pay of those foreign teams? Assuming the new media rights deals opens up the overall wallet for it?

that's really what he wants to do.

Too many leagues to keep up with when Euroleague at least has the template that Silver would love to poach.

Even if he wants to bring in the Real Madrid's and Olympiacos' and Fenerbahce's, asking some Prem League team to start up a brand new team for the NBA seems pointless when we'd rather just see that in Seattle.

The real problem is that there's money to be made in the UK, but hoops just isn't a thing there compared to Turkey, Israel, Serbia, etc. and logistically that's too far for what Silver wants.

But there is no need to kill European domestic basketball. We all know it’s not the NBA. They know it too. It’s not gonna be the win he thinks.

Why have an nba monopoly on the game when we all think of the NBA as the game?

Eurobasket got a lot of attention this year so this might make sense.

These dudes don't see the global vision but I think it's worth a shot. There's so much room for growth in Europe. There aren't too many state of the art arenas in Europe, and the ones that exist weren't built for basketball. Long term partnering with the NBA these clubs can upgrade facilities, get bigger TV deals, and just grow the overall profile.

Trying to convince premier league squads and PSG to start teams is a good move too, these clubs have plenty of money and with the NBA's help they can get the ball rolling.

I dont agree with putting these teams in the NBA playoffs. NBA Cup for sure, but even as a standalone league I think it can be bigger than the Euroleague

I don't care about the Euroleague thing but having NBA teams face them during the season is just dumb. Unless all the games are here, cool but him talking about NBA teams going over there will have zero interest because no one in America will watch. I guess we will all catch the highlights on IG like Adam Silver prefers

You can't do in Europe what you have here in America. European model is national tournaments and European tournament for stronger teams. Both are important for their fans.

Let's say they come up with a few new European teams plus add a few existing teams from Euroleague or smaller European leagues, the end result is that every European league will become weaker with bunch of players all over the place.. Does NBA think they could create a product that would eventually eliminate Euroleague which is right now considered the strongest European league? Good luck with that, as Fiba already tried it and didn't work out.

Most of Europe watches their football anyway, not basketball, and if they are not bringing world famous names to Europe to play out there, then who is gonna watch their product that hasn't seen already? Basketball does not generate big money in Europe, most of the top teams out there are actually losing money every season lol. They could potentially send bunch of G league players there if they offered higher salary and if their NBA Europe brand teams did well in their national tournaments as well, they might build a fanbase. But for NBA it is important they make profits and they won't make shyt at least in their first few years.

I hear talks about UK having this potential how there is a lot of money to be made in basketball and nobody out there still cares about basketball besides watching NBA superstars.

My thinking is that Silver wants the NBA to be a conglomerate where it owns all the Basketball leagues around the world. He wants to start with Europe, then probably of Asia, then Africa

That way he has so much control of the future talent around the world to eventually play in the NBA, and just a way to basically print money as the owner of all the leagues
