there's not enough star power in the league. Why everyone runs from this reality is crazy. Those days might be over because the league is incapable of producing even a Caitlin Clark-esque figure.

To make it worse, there's a GENERATIONAL superstar in the draft every year, which cheapens the word.

The NBA is witnessing the carnage they set up by convincing basketball fans that only 5-6 teams are worth your time. Now, it works internationally, but internationally, whether it's soccer or basketball, only a handful of teams are worth your time too, so they're used to that. We tend to tune shyt out when our team is out.

None of these youngins aee appealing to y'all now that y'all know so much about them.

Sports is my job now but when it wasn't I definitely tuned out on every single Spurs Finals in the early 2000s before the two against the Heat.

I don't remember a second of Spurs-Nets, Spurs-Pistons or Spurs-Cavs..

The casual NBA fan has been trained to check for big names or teams and when that's not there, the stakes feel even lower.

The reason the NBA can't produce a Caitlin Clark like figure is because all of the best players are foreign born.

Jokic, Luka, Giannis, Embiid, SGA.......none of these guys are American.

James Harden was the last American MVP and that was in 2018.

OKC is a tiny market but guys like KD and Russ made them must see TV

SGA is just boring. Tryna say he plays like Kobe and MJ is disingenuous af. When Kobe and MJ were his age, they were dunking on nikkas and doing acrobatic shyt on top of their middy game

What are we basing this off of? :jbhmm:

Playing against peak popularity LeBron and the rockstar Heatles in the 2012 NBA Finals? After playing 5x champ Kobe and ratings paradise LAL 2 rounds before? or future tv slots and playoff matchups against peak popularity, back-to-back if not unanimous MVP Wardell?

Put another way: KD was 8th, 7th, and 9th in jersey sales the years before making the 2012 Finals. The year after he made it? He jumped to top 3. Prior to that exposure, he'd have a year where he was the 30ppg scoring champ but 9th in jersey sales, just ahead of Nate Robinson and David Lee... both playing for the Knicks :dead:

What's also funny, SGA vs Jokic generated big ratings a few weeks back, even peaking higher than Boston vs NYK and part of why these playoffs thru the semifinals were the most watched for ESPN since 2011 per reports. But there's no peak Kobe, LeBron, or Steph for Shai. Ant isn't that. Tatum/Boston would've been the closest.

KD and Westbrook had motion for OKC. They had amazing ratings for that small market

Clark’s brand was built in college just like the superstars in the nfl today

Silver actually gave a pathway to bypass the free minor league system of college until it blew up in his face.

some of these problems are just the evolution of how we now consume entertainment and the nba having a regular season that just doesn’t work, but some of these things are because Silver has no pulse on what makes Sports matter to fans. NBA has experience a decline in cultural relevance this decade and Silver just let it happen
