If that were the case, then the challenges would clearly be needed because it would mean referees were getting every call wrong initially.

Maybe they should give out technical fouls for unsuccesful challenges so that teams only challenge when they're really certain.

That’s too punitive. Imagine a team loses a game by 1 off a bad challenge call. The media would eat the coach alive, now imagine it’s a playoff game.

I think it works 2 max per coach but not a automatic two because last time they had that coaches were wasting the 1st one on any call because they still had a automatic 2nd.

They do this and you might legit see 4 hour games. Morally I see the premise but that makes for an unwatchable product. Coaches challenging every call with never ending tv timeouts…
