NBA players to vote on their own awards

National Basketball Players Association executive director Michele Roberts sent out a memo on Tuesday to announce that the union will have its own set of awards starting this year. Yes, in a way, Kevin Durant will get what he wanted. The winners of the 2015 Players Choice Awards will be revealed at a meeting this summer in Las Vegas, via USA Today's Sam Amick:

"This program was created at your request to recognize outstanding performance of your peers, on and off the court," Roberts wrote. "No one knows better than you what it takes to shine."

Roberts indicated in the memo that MVP is among the awards that will be voted on, and there is a "Man of the Year" award as well that will honor a player's efforts in the community.

No one should have a problem with this. If a large portion of the NBPA feels strongly that the players need a voice in this discussion, then the players surely have a right to make that voice heard.

it will be interesting to see who gets voted MVP by the players cuz I think Harden is gonna win the media vote.

I actually think Steph is far more loved by the media. I don't see how he loses it.

This still will be really interesting though. It be even better if you could see which players voted for one another. It bring the rivalry aspect of the league to another level.
