How many kids are we even talking about? They have other options now.

The NBA is not obligated to cater to 17/18 year olds. The getting paid is another topic all together, but as far as the one & done? They have other options. Ball might get some hate, but he knew better than to have Melo in college and not get paid.

If the NBA put serious work into making the G-League a real development league and each NBA team has a G-League affiliate/academy that they do their scouting through, the NCAA will be for a problem.

If my only goal is to be a professional basketball player and I’m good enough to go straight to the G-League, I’d rather do that and get professional level coaching/training at 17/18 for a couple years instead playing in a shytty system at a college.

These NBA players and lots of fans seem to forget that it was the NBA's idea to have the "One-n-done", and not the NCAA. GM's and coaches pushed for it to protect themselves from drafting dudes straight outta HS who clearly weren't ready.

Why should a coach develop players? :what:
What’s the point of developing a player who is there for one season, yes? You’re getting one and dones to go for the title that season.

You develop players who will be there in the long term. I mean, does your job try to move temp workers up the ladder?

Cause it's part of coaching. They don't do any development but they should cause it's what a coach is supposed to do. Sign up for the team you get coached.

TYRONE GA!
When a hockey player or baseball player enters the draft at 18 or a tennis player goes pro at 16 nobody gives a shyt if they fail.

Why should there be this phony “development” standard for basketball players?

repped

And mufukkaz KEEP forgetting the one and done rule is AN NBA RULE!! IT'S NOT AN NCAA RULE!!!

mufukkaz mad at the NCAA over a rule that isn't even theirs. Direct that anger to the NBA :snoop:

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
When these kids wash out or don't get drafted or wind up as life G leaguers yall gonna be crying

Rivals.com

14 out of the top 25 kids are in the NBA and still have jobs 5 years later. Contrary to popular belief, scouts generally do a good job of identifying NBA talent.

These kids should be getting paid if they're going to waste their time in college, or they should be allowed to go straight to the league.

You're right, there's no point...which is why the current policy is so stupid. It doesn't benefit the players (they ain't getting developed), it is not set up to benefit them. It just benefits the exploitative institution that is the NCAA.

I think you’re confused breh. This is wonder world. These coaches are paid millions to win games and titles, not to try to develop a guy who won’t be there the next season or get guys prepared for the league. That’s not what they’re “supposed” to do. Besides, the one and dones know what they’re signing up for.

the one and done is a flawed model for all parties involved

someone suggested a straight outta HS or you gotta stay at least 2 years. I think that's truly a better model for all parties involved.
