His popularity exposes the whole hip hop music industry as a joke. No songs on radio, not ranked on any list, only talked about when he's in trouble.

Goes on tour and has a fanbase big enough to make 70 million. Regardless of how you feel about the music, A LOT of people love it apparently.

His fans love him more than the actual music. He's an icon for this generation.

I wouldn’t say the industry is exposed as joke as a whole, more so there’s a lapse and disconnect between hip hop media and certain portions of the culture on the ground, in real life….there’s the hip hop world that’s pretty much summed up by the front page of the booth and whatever they’re gossiping about on a week to week basis on the Joe Budden Podcast….and there’s a hip hop world that’s largely ignored by that other world altogether…shyt is like dark matter, it’s gravity is felt by that other world indirectly

As an example, using online hip hop discourse and media coverage as a gauge…you’d think the Clipse album was biggest event of the year rap wise damn near…went to the concert in August and it was 900 nerdy white dudes, I told people what I was doing that night and they hadn’t the slightest of clues it was even happening….YoungBoy came the next month and the shyt was an event, even for people my aged out of his music we felt because our kids was geeked by the shyt
