NBA 2K15 VS NBA LIVE 15: A RIVALRY RENEWED?
The price differences, the control schemes and the game play itself are all things that have differed throughout history when we compare the NBA Live and NBA 2K series. Some prefer NBA Live while other live and die by the NBA 2K series. With both of these titles being released on the same day, will this basketball rivalry be reignited? Let’s take a look as to why that might just happen.
The first thing that strikes me is the release date itself. This shows me that the folks over at EA Sports are not afraid to take the big name on the block, 2K Sports. This does not in itself guarantee the game will be a good installment, or even an ok title, but it does show that they are willing to go out on a limb and try to go head to head with their competitor.
If you know me, you’ll know that I’ve really enjoyed my time with what NBA 2K14 has brought to the table in their PlayStation 4 and Xbox One iterations of the game. The effort they put in to the MyCareer mode makes the game appeal to a huge audience and shows that they’re still innovating and the huge following that MyTeam has amassed that shows that 2K Sports put a lot of work into their game.
My biggest worry was that if 2K Sports was left alone in the basketball video game world they would become complacent, just like EA Sports has infamously done with their Madden franchise. I worried that the longer they were left alone, the more and more lazy they would grow.
With the introduction of NBA Live 14, it now puts at least some sort of pressure on 2K Sports and now will make them push themselves harder than ever. Although Live 14 wasn’t anything huge, EA Sports did shows signs of life by updating the game with enhanced visuals and improved lighting. These showed that EA Sports wanted to deliver a better experience than they did.
In the best case scenario, we get two great basketball video games with tons of effort put into them. Just imagine being able to choose what game you want and not being able to go wrong with either choice. I know there are tons of people that love NBA Live and that there are just as many who really enjoy the NBA 2K series.
I grew up playing both of these titles and I hope that both can shone, but until these games hit the market, we can only sit and cross our fingers hoping that both companies are working their hardest on their upcoming hoops game.
