cali is a good place to be homeless TBH, the weather is great, i think only HI might be better
Cali by far has the best weather for a homeless person not even HI it rains more there or at least it seems to.

but you are correct its the weather. people are coming from all over the US to be homeless in Cali. If i had to be homeless any where in the US I would be homeless in cali, specifically L.A. close to the westside not far from the beach. Imagine if you dont have any water to shower and you're flat broke. you can always walk into the water in the middle of the night, wash your hair, etc. they also have those beach showers you can use. and some of those restrooms are open with no doors. lastly, who wouldnt want to drown there sorrows at the beach looking at waves roll in and the sunset? if you have to be out there, this is by far the best place to be.

Then to add, some of the reasons some people are homeless here in cali is because they came from other states where they tried to come out this way and make it in the big cities or their old towns were dying so they had to move where they THOUGHT a job would be there. and nowadays the rent is so high, you can't even make that jump from some midwest state to cali and make it. it aint happening. you wont be able to sustain these rents until you settle in good with a nice income. you would have to already have money to burn and a nice paying job waiting for you. or else you will end up homeless.

It’s not just stick your head in the sand. We have criminalized homelessness.
easy to do when a large number of the homeless population are black and brown people. if they were 99% white. you would hear a different tune from america. just like all the white folks that all of a sudden start caring about drug addicts once it hit home for them. but never gave a care when it was black folks struggling thru the crack era.

A lot of those cities mentioned in the article need to fix their zoning laws.
thats part of it. but its basically haves and have nots. its money in politics. when you hear a person like bernie sanders keep telling you how much money a very small percentage of americans have vs the rest of us. eventually you will start to see our cities look like 2nd and 3rd world countries or like those futuristic movies where you have a huge gap between the haves and have nots.

The money in politics makes it so that these developers can keep making "luxury" housing with maybe 2 or 3 "affordable" units. If that. and every time someone moves out or an old lady dies from an old apartment where she was paying 1998 rent $600 per month. The rent goes up to market value for the same place. that place is now going for $1500 to $1800 .. our wages have not increased that much to keep up. so whos going to afford that? you may get lucky in certain parts of the city and gets some UCLA or USC rich kids parents to foot the bill for those new rents. aside from that. these places can't keep long term tenants. cause no one can keep up that crazy rent. and thats low level stuff.

There is def a housing problem. But I'm telling you as someone who's worked with the homeless, lots of them make their way to the west coast so they don't freeze to death in winters here in the midwest. Everything from hitch hiking, to old school train hopping, to begging enough to get a $80 bus ticket, it's not like they have to take anything but themselves. And social services there makes sure they eat etc.

I asked why not move to the south, and was told that most southern metros are conservative and not going to allow them to post up in tent cities and under highways etc. They bus them out, or make life hell for them.

So the west coast is basically mecca if you're homeless, great weather, liberal governments that won't bother you, system in place for social services. No city other than LA would allow a situation like the one that exists in skid row.

Southern Cali probably the best place to be if you're homeless(and also high net worth :ld:). I don't blame people for wanting to move their instead of being at risk for frostbite in colder climates. :yeshrug:

When I briefly stayed in Charlotte I was amazed at all the homelessness and people such as myself almost ending up homeless, but the cost of living is rising tremendously thanks to people migrating from up North and out West.

So overpopulation is a problem?

California has turned into a dystopian society where it's the poor and the rich and it's obvious.

You're right about the South. They criminalize being poor here and constantly tell you to "pull yourself up by the bootstraps." Also our summer weather can kill you.

That's part of it, but you have all these Northern and Western transplants moving to Charlotte and Raleigh with their high paying banking jobs. They move to those cities because it's "cheaper" than NYC and LA and the the banking industry is booming in those cities. Unfortunately, for the Natives they had to move further in rural areas or leave altogether. Their meager wages and salaries can't keep up the cost of living rising.

Hate to say this, but having only 115 million people in 1970 America to 350 million people in 2020 means quality land is becoming scarce. There is nothing infinite about resources of this planet.
