All hard drives will accumulate vectors till they die out. HGST, statistically is killing the game. WD has been quasi reliable, to be fair, one of mine has lasted 7 years (internal desktop) while the other new one is going on 3 years. I honestly feel like its only externals that for some reason, lock up or simply stop working. I've had two WD externals die on me, as has a friend of mine. When it comes to externals, I don't even bother anymore. I back up shyt on gmail (Using up 7 gigs up on there).

If its a game, I can simply re-download it. So making backups is easy for me as I only backup documents, music, pictures and songs. Also newegg has them cheap (refurb).
It is

I've had 2 WDs,2 Toshiba,and a Seagate die on me

I've never had a external last more than 4 years and that was only 1

All the others died in less than 2

I currently have 15 internals in my server(all WD black and green drives) and never had a problem

I really should just build another server but I don't have the space for another big ass case

No space to add another internal hdd somewhere? Lost my whole music collection and movies to a WD external. Still has me :mjcry: To be fair it fell while in use, but it fell about a foot onto a thick carpet.
Man the same shyt happened to me years ago

Its what made me build a server

I lost all my old pics,all the music I recorded,all the beats i made,all my movies,albums,tv shows,homemade pornos,etc :mjcry:

I was HURT and haven't fukked with externals since then

Thats why with this new one nothing important is going on it.Only xbox games and full bluray rips

Get a WD Black 7200 rpm internal and put it in a USB 3.1 enclosure. Then you'll REALLY be cookin :myman:

I had the same thing happen to me about 8 years ago. The enclosure completely messed up, but the drive itself was good enough to get the data off.

I broke down years ago and spent the time and effort to learn how to set up a cheap networked file server. It's much more secure and expandable than putting your shyt in the hands of one single external drive.

I will use externals for work and for transferring stuff, but never for backup or storage of my personal stuff.

Honestly both Western Digotal & Seagate are good choices. I have numerous HDDs of each around the house.

I own both. I have a 500GB Seagate for daily computing (music backup, movies, etc) and 1TB WD Elements I bought a couple weeks ago as a backup to the Seagate. No problems from the Seagate in the 4 yrs I've had it (fingers crossed)

Yea, dropping is a no no. Causes a head crash. You would have to pay hella money just for a professional data recovery firm to "try" to fix it. We talkin thousands
It worked for a good few days before it started having trouble being read too

Luckily, I was able to put everything on a new drive before it stopped being read completely :whew:
