Finally! I'm leaving DC, heading back to Louisiana for a few months. My house is set to close (selling$$$) in a few weeks. I'm taking the rest of the year off to live free, travel, visit anyone, trick off a little, plot and research business opportunities. Preparing and planning to move away from DC has been the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Prepping my house to sell, setting up places to stay, saving, a lot of pre-thinking and trying to cover many bases. Leaving the high paying IT field, getting my bills down to car insurance and cell bill, (debt free). It's really been over a 2 year process. So stressful, i'm absolutely burnt out. I hate work, I can't see myself worker for anyone at this moment. None of my coworkers or friends can fathom quitting and taking time off. I plan to work up until my last few days in the area. I've been since 07, I never liked it here. I lived here from 04 to 06 too. I left broke and had to come back after only 6 months. I've sacrificed a lot chasing this money. Thank God I'm leaving with something this time. I'm heading back home for a few months, spend time with my family that I miss so much. At least until Xmas. After that, if there's no real business opportunities I might make that move to TX or ATL. I can really go anywhere, but those are the easiest being i have family and friends there.
First question, how to get fired and get unemployment benefits? I don't really need it, but it would be a bonus being that i wouldn't have to use my savings at all.
Second question, any of you have experience moving 1000+ miles using PODS or Uhaul/trailer or whatever? I 've sold a lot of stuff and don't plan to move with a lot of baggage. I do have a dinette set I love and want to keep, a lot of shoes clothes, small items and 2 tvs. A 60" I can't transport in my car along with my other things.
I've looked at getting a Uhual truck 10' + trailer to car my car in. 2400$ + gas in that guzzler. I don't think that's a good idea. I'm looking at some pods. And getting a carrying rack for the top of my car.
I'm nervous and excited by this adventure of uncertainty in my near future.
