MLB record book is pretty meaningless now, so why not?

If MLB were actually serious, they would pay reparations to the decedents of Negro league players :troll:

So St. Louis, in all, has 28 pennants in the NL, AL, American Association, Union Association, and Negro League combined for the Cardinals, Browns, Maroons, and Stars.

Not bad.

Cracks me up to see so called journalists (Fatlock) and social media chuds crying about this. Merging stats and history from one league to the next is not new. AFL to NFL, ABA to NBA ring a bell ?

nah

As result of Wednesday's integration, Negro Leagues legend Josh Gibson is now the all-time leader in career batting average (.372, beating out Ty Cobb's .366), slugging percentage (.718, beating out Babe Ruth's .690), and OPS (1.177, beating out Ruth's 1.164). Gibson is also the new single-season leader in those categories. The new single-season leaderboards:

BATTING AVERAGESLUGGING PERCENTAGEOPS
1. Josh Gibson: .446 in 19431. Josh Gibson: .974 in 19371. Josh Gibson: 1.474 in 1931
2. Charlie Smith: .451 in 19292. Mule Stuttes: .898 in 19272. Josh Gibson: 1.435 in 1943
3. Hugh Duffy: .440 in 18983. Josh Gibson: .871 in 19433. Barry Bonds: 1.421 in 2004

that racist cac ty cobb :blessed:
Josh was a real cool dude. Hung out with him a couple times

I got nothing against these stats counting but God damn they ain't have no pitchers?! Those batting averages say no.

Just noticed some negro league seasons were as short as 26 games. Makes more sense now. Kinda hard to think those should count for season averages. Maybe just career totals would make more sense.

Yeah, but baseball sees itself as continuous with its history. They have revered figures in the Hall of Fame who were among those responsible for ensuring that only white people could play ball in the MLB. If they had to admit that it was not just an innocent "mistake" or a "sign of the times", they would feel it deep down, the same as those Southerners who can't come to terms with how evil the actions of Confederates were.
Except they did admit it was their fault not just a sign of the times or whatever. Just one quote I found on the first page of this thread

“The irregularity of their league schedules, established in the spring but improvised by the summer, were not of their making but instead were born of MLB’s exclusionary practices,” MLB said in the release.

I know white people are evil but we make ourselves look silly when we just say whatever.

Well I'm glad you're so easily pleased. :comeon:

I was talking about assigning actual culpability to the decision-makers involved and taking seriously what that means for their legacies, not just saying, "It was the practice at the time." That sentence you're highlighting is a passive sentence where the subject responsible isn't even given an active verb.

Nothing wrong adding these stats. A lot of players who were in the League came over and dominated in the MLB and that fat cac Babe Ruth has all of his stats counted from a time where he was only playing other cacs, most of whom who were farmers and shyt....

Anyone that got a problem can suck a dikk
