If Jay was arguably, the King of NY at the time (next to DMX), and NY was at the forefront of hip-hop at the time (Pun, Ja, Bleek, Cam, Diddy, NORE, etc.), how could a Jay cosign, not legitimize Juvy? :mjlol:

And No Limit did not have the buzz Cash Money had in 98'......FOH. The hottest cliques went on tour that year together (Rocafella, Ruff Ryders, and CMM). I never said Cash Money wasn't poppin up here. Everyone knew, those were the nggas from the south, that were bout to blow. No Limits buzz was fading out, then.

There's so much wrong with this post.

No Limit was bigger than all those labels in 98. They're also the only label mentioned that pulled off a national tour by themselves with no help. And they did that in '99.

East coast was not playing no Cash money tapes in 98. HA was a hit single on the radio. That's as far as it went for them at that point.

The label folding by 2003 is irrelevant when these discussion is about how these artists came into the game 3 years prior

Y'all keep moving goalposts are changing arguments which baffles me cause I don't know why this is a hill to die on:mjlol:
Because @Wacky D and you are downplaying Universal's role in Nelly blowing up. He got plenty of hype as the first STL rapper plus the whole midwest schtick. Universal was pushing him just like Def Jam South pushed Luda. The labels were doing their jobs.

Neither had a big star on their debuts. The biggest were UGK and Lil' Wayne (who wasn't WAYNE yet).

Who the fukk were they at the time?:mjlol:

Nelly, as an unknown label tax write off, dropped a single that led to a diamond album in the span of about 8 months.

That's ALL this is about
Yea I’m just trolling

Didnt they go on tour 98-99? They had to right? Cause B.G. dropped bling bling in 99, and HB was in full swing by 99

I thought they had made like 100mil revenue but only saw like 20 racks or sum. I might be wrong though

I remember Bizzy Bone telling a story about Nelly giving Lazy Bone his demo in like ‘99 or so and he shytted on him for trying to sound like Wish lol…A Massive miss but Nelly was looked as a novelty act especially being from fukking St. Louis which was foreign to a lot of hip hop listeners at the time.

I grew up 3 hours away from St. Louis and coming up in the hood/country type of environment, I understood it even though I didn’t understand some of the slang Nelly was using but

Nelly is definitely a GOAT…not for his lyricism but for shifting the culture, creating a classic debut that went Diamond and creating timeless records.

No.
