If you watch the play again, Pierce actually precipitated the breakdown. He left Milsap and wildly reached for the ball on the Schroeder drive (completely unnecessary move that had absolutely no impact on the play) and got beat to the rim by Milsap forcing Nene to put a body on Milsap leaving Horford the space for the oreb. Nene deserves loads of derision for leaving an insanely high number of points out there with his lack of finish at the rim and he's obviously a horrid rim protector, but I blame Pierce for that play more than Nene.
