Like Barclays isn’t built across the street from 560 State Street which was Hov’s famous stash house/loft apartment pre-rap. The Barclays is in downtown Brooklyn/Prospect Heights area, its majority white. But let Twitter fakkits call it and Hov was out there tearing down projects. Like Barclays didn’t create thousands of jobs.

Amazon was going to do the same but NY didn't think the low wage jobs was worth it. As far as Barclay's not having anything to do with gentrification please enlighten me why this took place....

Downtown brooklyn was gentrified long before the barclays opened, and it was mostly whites that got bought out. Jay wanted a team in brooklyn. He didnt have to be persuaded

This is, however, not Jay’s first time discussing or participating in the gentrification process of Black neighborhoods. In 2003, the $4.9 billion Atlantic Yards (re)development project was announced in Brooklyn, NY. This project would eventually lead to the construction of Pacific Park, which is described as a “mixed-use commercial and residential development project.” As part of this development project, Barclays Center—home to the Brooklyn Nets—was built. Since the roll out of this project, community members have actively protested in hopes that the development would come with a promise of job opportunities and affordable housing, best known as a Community Benefits Agreement. In 2005, that CBA was signed (not without faults) and Jay-Z was brought in shortly after in an effort, according to the community, to “legitimize the project” and persuade the public into trusting the development. While it is reported that Jay has since sold his stakes both in the center and the Nets themselves, the damage to the community had already been done. Most of all the requests made in the CBA were never brought to fruition and, thus, Brooklyn residents still currently face rapid displacement.

And the plan to bring the Nets to Brooklyn was in motion long before the Barclays opened too

I think the language there is written in a way to make Jay look bad and pretend he had little say in any decisions while giving ownership a pass for fukkery. Jay was part owner before they broke ground and made important decisions in everything from the look of the Jersey to the music that is played in the arena. I think Hov just really wanted a team to represent his hometown/Boro and wanted to be a part of it. Don't think he understood the displacement of some families really entered his thought process until after everything really started being built.

He has a book about Jay coming out so it wouldn't be in his best interest to say something contrary to the adulation he's issuing in his book about him.
