That's not entirely true. It was new providers offering the gig internet first. They might not be nationwide but they are around. Google is one of them and definitely a company that could take over on that front if need be. They don't need to monetize the service the same way these old telecom companies do for their profit. They will prob just data mine their customer thoughInternet service requires billions in infrastructure and upkeep. The telcos that have years invested in their infrastructure are going to strong arm any new providers from ever gaining any traction.
