What surprise? Nintendo tried outsourcing some of their properties in the early 90s (Mario movie, Zelda to CDi) and the results were so bad they pulled back from letting anyone touch their shyt for twenty years.
Sure, there's billions of money to be made of Nintendo properties, but they ain't tryna risk a repeat of that situation ever again.

Why would a Zelda show need to be gritty? The source material is a fun family game with cute characters. Any show/movie that has to do with a monarchy and isn't based in the era of the combustible engine is getting GOT comparisons. Just lazy writers showrunners, and studio execs just piggybacking if what's hot. When I read a critic giving Marco Polo tv show a negative review because they called it a bootleg GOT I knew folks weren't even trying to be thoughtful with the comparisons.Everything is Game of Thrones now
