This is basically all of us (us being all black people)
In principle I respect Dames hustle and DIY mentality.
The problem is the amount of money it takes to launch these type of companies is astronomical, and even more to get and remain PROFITABLE ( Netflix is still not technically profitable)
He also seems to burn the bridges of any relationship that can be beneficial.
Good luck I guess though.
The two reasons why we both respect Dame AND shake our head each time his name comes up.
Dude does NOT get that the block and the world are 2 inherently different things - yes, it's dog eat dog on the block and in the world, but the really big dogs don't bark and they bite to kill. So each relationship he burns, each name he takes in his mouth.. gets him a step further away from the bag/success.
I want to be able to point at a project that is not Roc-A-Fella or Paid In Full that was done with Dame at the helm that was a genuine, no bullshyt, no hype REAL success. Can anybody name anything? And when I say success I mean: a mainstream success, not supported by the 200 dudes who'll buy anything Dame is pushing pause.
The other thing is: he has a new hustle every quarter. That's great. But this means: he either sucks at picking projects OR doesn't see anything through for it to even have a chance at being successful. Dude had an art gallery, a movie studio, gas stations etc. Now if one of these were genuinely successful and he had an accountant he listened to, there wouldn't be persistent rumors about money issues. He got screwed by that 1 director though, but still.
Want this brother to win, I want all brothers and sisters to win of course, but burning bridges is his achilles heel.
