This is actually very good advice. There are many times when one has to react like this. No arguments or going back and forth with her, just brush it off. If she is serious, she'll be insistent but in doing so, eventually reveal her true motivations. People underestimate the power of silence or in this instance, the lack of a verbal/wordy response.
