The StarchBishop™️
Never Forget is a thread series where you and I - your host, Taadow - will reflect on songs that were
hits that people seem to have put in the attic. Today, we look at Shaq Diesel - "Strait Playin'".
"B-B-BUT WAS IT REALLY A HIT?"
Billboard Hot Rap Singles Peak: #33
(interesting note: this charted higher than the previous single from the same album
"You Can't Stop The Reign" which peaked at #54)
The aftermath:
- this is one of the moments that let most who didn't already know that DJ Quik beats
make everybody sound good.
- this is also one of the first times most of the world heard Peter Gunz.
- "Keep your eye on Big Shaq, and put your money on the Lakers..."
This is right after Shaq came out west to play for the Lakers. As we know, Shaq coming to L.A. was a franchise/league changer. This was the anthem, throw your damn hands up.
