Sis, I take it you are a bit Younger than me...

My generation, we called them "Groups".

"Boy Bands" were White Folks, Knock-Off attempt to produce "R&B" Artists, that appealed to White People.

It is the same thing that they did with Elvis.

Authentic Black Music is "Too Black" for White Folks.

People who grew up on Classic R&B and Soul Music (Pre-Boy-Bands), recognized the Bootleg and whitewashed nature of "Boy Band" music.

If you were a teen or young child, when "Boy Bands" came out, I "Get It".

But if you were raised on folks like Luther, Stevie, Anita Etc... Then you already know what it is.
I was raised on Luther, Anita, Phyllis Hymen and I still liked boy bands and singing groups. It's not mutually exclusive. But yes I'm probably younger than you regardless.

True, the Jackson 5 weren’t called a boy band. Not New Edition, nor and of the groups in the 70s.

Not sure who coined the term boy band, but it probably wasn’t done by a Black person.

Same as the terms “urban music” or EDM.

They always have the tendency to take things and twist it, to make it fit their narrative.

Great,

Then you know that MOST Black Folks weren't messing with "Boy Bands".

Were there SOME Black Folks that liked "Boy Bands" sure.

But Black Folks as a group were not Fukkin with "Boy Bands".

Why listen to "Watered Down" Flavorless, IMITATION music, when we had AUTHENTIC R&B and Soul groups?

I "Get it" you may have liked them, you may know other people who may have liked them...

But Black Folks as a Group weren't Fukkin with the "Boy Bands", this is just a simple fact!

There are Black Elvis fans...

MOST Black Folks, ain't Fukkin with Elvis.

"Boy Bands"

Were White Peoples "Answer" to Black R&B Groups.

That is why I call it "Diet R&B", it is music designed to appeal to young White Kids.

At this point we have folks, who claim the genre K-Pop originated with Koreans. Although it’s watered down R&B.

Teddy Riley is producing a lot of these songs over there.

Facts,

The problem is a lot of younger people, don't know (and don't care to know), about the authentic groups/music.

And we have people like Teddy Riley, and Full Force who care more about making money, then preserving our culture, SMH!

I knew H-Town, but never heard of 98 degrees or O-Town.

Well H-Town is a male R&B group. Something we had a lot of in the 90s but not so much now:mjcry:.
This is O-Town signing about having wet dreams

Never knew them cacs was supposed to be R&B :dahell:
It's not that they were supposed to "be" R&B, but R&B was having a pretty good run on the charts going into the late 90s. All the boy bands tried to tap into that sound once or twice(or like N'Sync did constantly). All the bubblegum pop acts did it or had rappers on their songs at one point or another to transition into their adult phase or whatever (Except Backstreet Boys).

Started with groups like the Jackson 5, then New Edition, then finally Boyz II Men.

They were the "Blueprint" for the "Boy Bands".

I'm an R&B head, I like singers that can "Sang", I can't fukk with that watered down, flavorless shyt!

The OG making the band.. o town :laff: i remember they aired that bullshyt on tgif on abc around late 99, 2000. Making the band was always a failed concept because cant force chemistry.
