my preference to be honest, I either wanted an alternate timeline T'challa from the multiverse or another character in 616 to take up the mantel. no need to de-canonize Chadwick for no reason. With multiverse shyt and every character having 3 or 4 proteges no reason to ever recast a character off screen.
In fact i would've even been cool with them james earl jonesing it and have a stuntman wear the suit with mask on at all times and cgi chadwicks voice, before Terrance howarding the black panther sequel
shyt just seem like a lazy way out for casual fans who like black panther but aren't really fans of the MCU.
