I shared and discussed this clip a bit the other day over on Discord cause I could "feel" (sensory) what he's saying. I think the 90s is the most accessible "lure" to reel most of us in but I'm looking forward to seeing how he maps the build up over the decades prior

Interesting point made in the clip about Kris Kross and In Living Colour. Fox was the new kid on the broadcasting block, and they smartly went after the youth audience.
Youth of all colors tuned in, and ILC's alternative SuperBowl halftime show ended up changing tv history.

The separate silos he mentioned were the result of Fox breaking up the traditional 3 network system, where we all watched the same tv shows, same news programs. New broadcast networks + cable tv expanding original programming put an end to that.


Book should be a good read. Im also interested in how he frames the build up to 90s era. One clear point he seems to make is about how the earlier creative fights lead to 90s era shows having Black directors, showrunners, and writers.
