What these extremists did was unite an entire country to the point that millions of people took the streets. In the process of doing that, they also ignited a chain reaction that contributed to these cartoons going from a local paper with minimal readership, to being shown in almost every corner of the globe.

It didn't unite the country, it divided again. The Muslim Community is in fear right now. The Ultra Right Wing groups are threatening and targeted them now. Islamphobia continues as it's been doing for years in France.

I can't answer that as I don't know what their strategy was, the cartoons were local, the extremists were locals, the cartoons are now seen everywhere so it stands to reason that more extremists will see them in addition to the people who are just showing support, how do you think this is gonna turn out?
