The interviewer went after the most controversial topic, this tactic goes as far back as Dan Rather. Cudi knew it was a touchy topic and saw the trap.

I hate interviewers, man.. I noticed its white interviewers who do this stuff the most.
Asap Rocky got asked about his views on homosexuality since hes into fashion and all that and there's a lot of gay designers and hes friends with some gay people and after that its like every fukkin interviewer brings the topic up and they tried making him some mackelmore for like gay peoples rights when hes really just like "i don't care, i think homophobia is immature and idgaf what gay people do
its none of my business"and after that Jason Collins thing with the VMAS, you can tell he got sick of it.

Its all about hype. If you get a celebrity to say something ridiculous or lose control, that's all the other media outlets will talk about all week. Celebrities don't fall for that these days.
The interviewer couldn't even push the issue, because Cudi is not the poster boy for anything.
Now Macklemore fake ass has to comment on homosexuality and gay marriage, even though Macklemore only used it as a gimmick to sell records.
