What I'm most worried about is them doing that thing they did with Red Dead Redemption where there's instances in the game that require you to smash X repeatedly if you want to progress the storyline and prompt the next scene

I don’t think they do that. I thought they use in-game You tend to see different/random stuff happening in their cutscenes.
