I liked TD season 2. Not as good as the 1st, of course. But it was entertaining.

Exactly!

People forget there were real rumors Leo and Brad Pitt were considering doing True Detective season 2. Lots of feature actors are interested in TV because that's were the great stories are being told. Downey doesn't need money. He's set off Marvel. Plus, him doing a HBO series only ups his acting cred for future film roles etc.
