This is a dope interview, but it's sad what happened to Jaz. I'm a old head, but one of the lessons I learnt early on in life is to never let foolish pride ever get in the way of my own progress.

Here's a guy who basically fukked up his whole career simply because he couldn't be seen signing to his son's label. Don't let him fool yall when he says the contract was too small, it was all the Roc could offer him at the time, the label was barely a few years old. The real problem was that Jay-Z was his son.

I'm in IT. I've mentored a gang of young programmers over the years. When I needed a job, I reached out to one of my youngins that had become a manager at a large Investment bank, he effectively became my boss. I was proud of duke and he looked out for the homie.

Sometimes you gotta humble yourself. Jaz is living proof of that shyt.

I feel you, I been on that same type shyt. I am an engineer but never too big for humility. If I put someone on and they blow and reach back, its all love.

On the other hand, I still have a hard time believing Jay was a loyal dude. That deal was worth only about a 3rd of what Jaz had signed to EMI many years prior to that. They werent exactly fledgling at that time IIRC, they had product and hits. At the very least, if they wouldve offered dude what he got back in 88 on EMI, I think he wouldve done the deal. I dont believe he was that high and mighty not to sign for that reason, especially when he was producing and rapping on Jay tracks anyway.
