Basically you’re giving the LA gangbangers the edge.ABC...
Joey whole career arc has been... mid to say the least. He a tier above A$AP Rocky.
Joey is a J Cole-tier rapper. He nice, but he don't check all the boxes.
Acting hurt his rapping. He dropped his first project in 2012 and only dropped three albums and none of those albums are classics.
1999 is the closest thing he got to a classic and he looking back to an era of NY hip-hop he was not a part of.
There's no forward motion with this guy, his rhyme schemes are stuck in 2017 and he coastin' off bein' a skilled NY rapper in a era with no new competition from the region.
Wordplay mean nothin' if it ain't gettin' over. What made the Kendrick-Drake battle great was that Drake got personal, I don't think Kendrick would have taken it as serious if it didn't get that way. Drake raised the stakes, Kendrick adapted to the situation and clipped him. Kendrick on top and Joey ain't in that rap league, even if he from NY. He gotta drop a classic and do trench work. Bodying Troy Ave was nice, but it wasn't enough. Kendrick clapped Drake while the globe was watching. It was different.
Just say that.
