I don't wanna spend more than 1700 but can if need be. On the higher end, I'm considering the new dell XPS 13, Samsung ATIV, lenovo x1 carbon ultrabook, and lenovo yoga 3. On the middle to low end, i'm considering the lenovo Y40-80 gaming notebook, lenovo G40 or G50, lenovo idepad u430, and lenovo z40. Ideally something no bigger than a 14" screen since I'm still using my older 15.6" sony vaio for work purposes and storage (500 GB HD), at least 8 GB RAM, at least 256 GB HD storage, and something aesthetically pleasing. I don't mind if it doesn't have an optical drive. Primary use will be for travel/leisure/movies+music/browsing, etc. I'm not much of a gamer. Thanks for suggestions brehs.

Wherever whores go.....
$1700 is quite excessive for a laptop or any computer especially if you are using for primarily general use.
I would never ever get a Dell of any kind. They do not do anything exceptionally well.
Samsung ATIV are nice and everything but everyone I have talked to thinks they are trash.
Lenovo even though they were sold by IBM they still excellent laptops and the carbons have always been highly rated.

If you want athestic and willing to drop that much then get a Macbook Retina.
Build quality is amazing, IOS is just :wow:
Laptop hasn't dropped in performance at all since I purchased mines last July.

Thanks for the suggestion; my bro has a macbook and loves it, but i've always been a PC guy. Almost everything I've read about the 2015 XPS 13 has been good save for a few things, and my last dell some years ago was great until I dropped the damn thing from like 20 feet. As far as cost, honestly money isn't a concern for me.

out of what you listed i vote yoga 3. it has good specs and the tablet form factor extends its usefulness beyond that of a regular laptop.
