there are a bunch of black mane lions. in fact, black mane lions have more testosterone, are usually the leaders and seen as more attractive by lionesses (which would have made a nice contrast with Scar being an outcast and eventual usurper). nevermind the fact that they bout to have a lion hanging out with a singing meerkat and warthog, "realism" is the last thing anyone expects out of Lion King

he doesn't. its patches of darker fur. certainly not noticeable or anything close to his black mane.
either way i'm still gonna watch it and enjoy it. Lion King is one of my favorite movies, but like I said, its just weird to strip one of the most recognizable villains of all time of one of the core design characteristics that distinguishes them. especially when in the trailer a lot of things seem to be shot to be 1-to-1 with the animated movie.
They wanted an all Black cast for the lions.

i don't know how many of you brehs are familiar with the documentary "Brothers in Blood: The Lions of Sabi Sand". Its about a pride of lions, one of the most violent ever. It used to be on youtube but it got removed.
I advise anyone that can find it to watch it. Really good documentary.
This is a powerful documentary, filmed over a 16 year span, about the rise of a Coalition of six lions, branded The Mapogo Lions, and their takeover of the largest territory by a pride.
Down the years, rangers and biologists have been astounded by the pride’s relentless hunger for domination as they showed no fear in massacring other lions - and their cubs - in order to expand their territory. In just one year, these six killed more than a hundred lions, and conquered an unprecedented amount of land. Their story is one of violence, deception, and thirst for power, one which reveals a surprisingly sophisticated side to the politics of lion behavior.
‘Legend’ is a word that is thrown around all too often, but the term surmises the reign of the Mapogo lions in the Sabi Sands to perfection. True warriors that proved themselves time after time on the field of battle. During their prime, 6 of these magnificent specimens patrolled their territory, dispatching all competitors and striking fear into the hearts of all that found themselves in their way.
Whole prides were wiped out in their relentless march for dominance and challengers were eaten in an act of defiance: a fate almost unheard of in the species of Panthera leo. Never before has the lion population known such a force and it is stories like this that have elevated their exploits to legendary status.
