Wow. Even for a dedicated stan like myself, I have no words. Lupe truly went from being top 5 after two to being a complete fukking weirdo. Why even make songs that will never be availabe for public release? That "Finally for Humans" is trolling at its highest level. This nikka just doesn't even give two shyts about his fans or his career at this point. I'm better off listening to that Japanese cartoon shyt than following his rap career only for him to be on this shyt. We GET it. Atlantic fukked you over! NEWS FLASH: YOU AREN'T THE ONLY ARTIST TO GET SCREWED BY YOUR LABEL. YOUR JUST THE ONLY ONE WHO CONTINUES TO ACT LIKE A bytch ABOUT IT! JUST MAKE SOME REAL GOD DAMN MUSIC ALREADY!!!!

AND YES I'M MAD!!!

:pacspit:

The self-indulgence of this post is stifling, really.

Do tell me, why is it that an artist should make everything comprehensible to you and pared down to your model of what an artist, hip-hop or otherwise, should be? Why is it that an artist can't make a statement of desire through a piece of work and have those looking upon it unpack it and interpret it? Why do you want everything handed to you on your terms artistically?

(I legitimately liked it and understand why he's ONLY releasing "Yet For Computers" for the public, though I'm not so sure it quite comes off. The art retains too much of Mark Rothko's popularly interpreted form, in my opinion, to be a computer's interpretation of it. It should be more decomposed. But the form is a necessary signifier when considering a project like this, that is an explicit tribute to Rothko. So I'm not too broken up about it.)

At the end of the day I don't sincerely care too much about this. It's general frustration from a genuine fan. (I'm from Chicago. I've been following his work since he was doing free shows at local colleges) Lasers was about as lazy as I have ever heard him and F&L II wasn't much better. My general point is: This whole Rothko thing is cool as a side project. But where is the Music? You the "Real" music, that people can hear? This isn't a situation where he officially retired and said he was done making Music. This is a situation where he continues to throw out album dates and names etc. And keeps hitting us with Twitter battles with DL Hughely and 5 second songs that only computers can hear. It's just frustrating to see someone so talented go so far out. Just my opinon though. Make of it what you will.

I can understand that, I just wonder why it is that there is some abstract imperative that he cultivate his talent in some specific way just because he does well (by a certain definition) in it? This IS music, just as much as The Cool or Lasers (POS that it is) is music. He's just working with a different concept than "make music within constructed genre bounds as an object of capitalist cultural exchange". I don't understand why that is so reviled.

Honestly, the worst thing about it is that he's subjected himself to odious art world economics, which I detest with a burning, incandescent passion. But whatever.

By every definition, you are %100 correct. This IS Music. But again, he, put this on himself. He took it upon himself on more than one occasion on a bunch of different mediums to drop song titles, album names, tour dates, and everything else imaginable in relation to his actual hip hop career. Not his rock career (Japanese cartoon) or his conceptual abstract art career (Rothko) because at the end of the day this is not hip hop and it %100 isn't the "kind" of hip hop he has blatantly alluded too over the last several months. If he plans on going this route permanently, god bless him, but he is legitimately losing fans and alienating the entire core of his fan base that has backed him since day 1.

Who says this has anything to do with Tetsuo and Youth? That's probably still in development, and the ROTHKO project is something he's also been wanting to do. A guy can't have two separate projects now? There's been no indication that he's going to do this type of project permanently (though I wouldn't mind that), but that this is something that he decided to do while getting his rap releases ready. So far, there's nothing more to it than that.

People are panicking too much. Let the guy make art freely already.

I was joking. But it does sound similar to that weird, experimental shyt that he makes though :heh:
