Rupert Wyatt talked about that when he was doing the first movie because there’s a news story about that ship launch in the movie. But clearly he didn’t get to see that vision through so I have no clue what he and his original writing team had planned other than “eventually”

Nah, just add Deacon from Prometheus as the new member of The Guardians of the Galaxy. He could be Groot's emo/grunge best buddy. Thrown in some Alanis Morissette and Nirvana tracks to the movie when he's onscreen and get lauded again for a great soundtrack of no original music
