i think in hip hop we're so obsessed with new shyt that we have a tendency to move on very quickly. thinking back to the 1995 for instance, we weren't trying to hear a classic like humpty dance at a party right after raekwon ice cream and that dropped only five years prior! lol so i'm guessing it may be the same dynamic for these youngsters

but trust me they still love bad and bougee & mask off

Yeah that's pretty much it. Our culture is the only one that essentially attacks nostalgia, history, and sentimentality. It's crazy, since if maybe some of these new artists would observe the careers of those that came before them, we'd hear less about them repeating the same mistakes.

I was trying to imagine walking up on some young adults and throwing on Bad and Bougie or Black Beatles

Like if I was as hype for these songs now as people were when they came out

(or that Molly Percocet shyt.. whatever that was)

Right? Like super fan. Like this was my SHlT

They would look at me like I had dogshyt on my shoe and was tracking it everywhere.

I imagine they would not only think I was insane for liking such ANCIENT relics, but I honestly don't think their young ears would register the sounds as dopeness. Even if the same song got heavy rotation during its run

Or as ubiquitous as Lil Wayne was. I NEVER hear anything from his run where he was literally everywhere. Like if you bang one of the CLASSICS of the auto tune mumble rap trap like genre they would boo loud as fukc

shiiiiiid I was just bumpin this when I woke up

music has no expiration to me...then again im 25... I was in HS when Wayne was at his peak. Greatest rapper of all time.

Wasn't even KRS One considered played out by 93?

actually kris had a big year in '93. return of the boom bap album with premo and big singles in sound of da police and black cop but he was most definitely viewed as an old school artist though

we were mad funny, for instance i was listening to the pharcyde return of the b boy off their first album and imani says "back in '89 i was doing the wop" and this was 1992! things move mad fast in hip hop, 3 years ago can be categorized as old school lol

I will never forget when I was like 10 and me and some of my cousins were reciting Scenario. That was one of those joints everybody knew the words to. One of my older cousins who was 16 heard us and came outside like:

Y’all know that song old as shyt right?:childplease:

Song hadn’t even been out a year. I never looked at music the same after that day

people were bumping biggie and pac songs for a long time after they came out, even now they still get play on occasion.
But for the most part everybody else was gone in 12month since the beginning. Outside of the occasion mega hit like that
Sir Mixalot song or that Coolio gangster paradise. etc

god man truer words were never spoken. i really wish we were like rock music and how they respect and preserve their history

i don't mind the old nikka jokes too much after all i am indeed old, i'm comfortable in my skin and take it in stride. but damn yo, are we gonna have any timeless hip hop artists besides maybe tupac? who is gonna be hip hop's beatles, rolling stones, bob dylan, beach boys, queen, etc? or our michael jackson, prince or stevie wonder?

plenty of older music and artists get bumped in cars and gatherings

yall just dont leave the house or talk to anybody and just start making up scenarios

no one is giving you shyt for throwing on bad and bougie. at most people just wouldnt be as hype because they've heard it 80 trillion times recently

i've been listening to 2011/12/13 chief keef and danny brown all week

wayne was a serious problem. the prefix, the suffix, i can't feel my face, dedication series of course especially 2, drought series, squd up tapes, carter 1 & 2.... then all the loosies that dropped over the course of like 3 years

it's probably more than 100 now that i think on it, incredible work

What's crazy is that I legit think we do have those artists, but people rush to tear them down way quicker than they used to, making it appear that their legacy means nothing.

People had jokes for years when Wayne couldn't get Carter 5 out, but as soon as it dropped, people rode the wave if remembering that he has a solid discography, and that the album was worth the wait.

People got a million different ways to say they don't like Drake, but when he rereleased So Far Gone, you couldn't spit without hitting someone that was telling you how they were taken back to 2009. The same shyt is gonna happen when they inevitably rerelease Take Care.

I could go on and on with more examples like Keef, Cudi, ASAP, and others.

While all of them may not have universal appeal, there are plenty of artists that have put out work that means something to people, and that's what REALLY matters for legacy.

It just sucks that most of these artists won't be in position to truly benefit off of their catalog, since we won't show that reverence until MUCH later.

This right here. Cats like LL and Cube should be held in the same regard for us and the Beatles are for them. But all we talk about is how sick and flabby they are
