give me a coupe!!

This will never make it to show room floors. By the time the mechanical engineers get to it, then safety regulations, and then standards, and then marketing, and then focus groups.
It will look like just a regular old Subaru.
Look what happened to the G35/G37
Infiniti dropped this piff at the auto show...

And then they softened all the lines and the aggressive stance and we ended up with this...

While this concept is likely longer, wider, and dramatic than the production car will be, we can't help but be excited about the next-generation WRX.
Subaru Design Boss Talks WRX Concept: Video
I'm not the only one saying it.
You have to realize that the WRX isn't a $100,000 car. Concepts are $100,000 cars. Concepts also don't have to meet fuel efficiency, crash ratings etc etc etc
Once this thing comes down to reality it will probably look good. but not THIS good. No way.
It actually reminds me a lot of the e90 M5

The base WRX more than likely won't look like that, but the STI with a limited production run will probably be 90-95% accurate.
This is the Concept-X from 2005 -

Very little changes were made, biggest difference are the headlights.

The concept X hardly put a blip on the radar because it was a safe design. Looks pretty much production ready. Didn't turn any heads.
If Subaru makes that 2014 concept above...for the price of an STi. Then god bless them. That car is hot.
I just don't see it happening.
I can see the STI being true to the concept, the headlights probably won't make it to either the WRX or the STI but outside of that I don't see why it wouldn't be built. The car looks great and is creating a buzz, I highly doubt they mothball it, they are one of the few companies that listens to their enthusiast base.
The WRX has been due for a makeover for a minute too.

Hate to say I told you so but...

Subaru WRX Erlkönig: Rallye-Star wird aufgefrischt (Bildergalerie, Bild 3) - AUTO MOTOR UND SPORT
I told you so.
It's a completely different car. Look at the lines. less dramatic roof line/slope and pillars. the thinner stance. the fenders. the blunt nose is gone in favor of a elongated sloped hood. PRETTY MUCH everything changed. It's much more similar to the current Impreza. The lights will probably be the only thing that it shares with the concept. And even those will be dumbed down.
Engineers ALWAYS trump designers. This is a perfect example of that. A hot design comes to the engineers and they say:
can't do this
can't do that
safety issues with this
gas mileage issues with that
this piece will cost a lot
that piece will require new manufacturing
these panels won't be able to be shared with the impreza to save money
etc etc etc etc
And since executives know they can't sell a $80,000 Subaru they listen to the engineers

Again. $500,000 concept VS realities of the market.

I refuse to believe!
