U can blame Battleship for the push back. When battleship flopped, i guess Hasbro didn't want two flops close together, so they pushed it back so they can render a 3d version of GI Joe.

The given reason was to convert it to 3D, but in reality they did reshoots. Channing Tatum apparently was on screen for about 10 minutes total and dies in the first action sequence. This was done basically to "reboot" the series with The Rock and Bruce Willis as its stars. But then "The Vow" and "21 Jump Street" come out in early 2012 and Tatum becomes one of the hottest names in Hollywood and the hype for Magic Mike started.
So now Paramount is sitting on a movie franchise with a big name in it where they kill him off in minutes because his career waswhen they were writing it. That shyt got undid.
Battleship being a flop probably had them taking a good, long look at the movie, too.
