How often do you choose plastic over paper? For me, all the time. Why? Because paper is filmsy and will break 5 seconds after you pull them from the cart.
So my question still stands.

How? You're killing trees and those same paper bags can clog up the sewerways. So what's the difference?

they're not even remotely the same, the half life for plastic is much longer than paper

So neither one of you argued against the tree killing. So it seems we agree on that. Yes, paper is biodegradable and will break down quicker than plastic.
However, the problem is still there. Regardless of the fact that it's there for shorter period.

People can use reusable bags
I'm sure there are materials that can be used that would degrade faster than plastic now
Paper is recycled much more now and used to make things
Trees can be harvested in ways that aren't as destructive to ecosystems
The damage that plastics do isn't easily reversible

The thing about trees is they can be regrown. lol

You can just bring your own bags. We been doing it for years.

True. But do you know what they are because I don't know. In fact, most people wouldn't without some googling.
So are plastics.
True. But that's not done everywhere and those ways are very recent developments.
(serious question) Damage to what exactly? And how is that damage done?
Marine life is major problem. But sewage? Aside from clogs, I don't know of any other damaging effects.
Of course they can. But someone has to go and do that. History has shown that companies and countries have cut and not bothered. Regrowing is done but not at the rate that it should.
