It just lost its image and uniqueness and if you think about it, N.Y. has only produced 1 good album in 2 years... LIG :lolbron::bryan:

New Yorks problem is that it's best rappers are 20 year vets and they straight up legends.

Well their young cats are just average and some dont really get that much shine out of the tri-state.
I like:
Smoke DZA
Joey Badass
ASAP
ROC Marciano and a few others.

All those names are "underground" if u want to call it that anymore minus ASAP. The industry doesn't want to push that NY sound so u have nikkaz like Fab, Jim Jones ect.. hoping on that popular trap beat gimmick, which is getting played out IMO. Add on the same rhyme schemes and what not and boom this is our so called "GOLDEN ERA" FOR THE 2000:laff:

the best music is still being made by indy artist.:manny:

You guys lost a whole generation. Was it Hov? Was it because y'all nikkas took Stack away?

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
50 Cent fought everyone who was poppin and making hot music. If Murder Inc was still around they would've produced some type of talent. G-Unit failed to carry that weight.

Overall, there is young talent from New York but none of them know how to make hit records and the older generation are still trying to stay in the game and because new york is all about "competition" it just seems like its every man for himself. I mean seriously, Who has Nas co-signed or put on in the last 5 years? Jay-Z didn't try to bring no mc's from new york.

I think it's cuz ny ain't ny no more
Yea it still has it bad areas but a lot of it has been gentrified
The white people have almost completely taken over
There nobody out here starving like they were in the 80s
Them nikkas is gone
Look at Harlem, uptown, Brooklyn, Queens
A lot of people forced to relocate
U gotta have money to live out here
Without that hunger, that it factor ain't there

:beli: Blackchild & Caddliac Tah were going to take over the Hip Hop landscape? Vanessa Carlton?

why does he NEED to co-sign someone? Top Dawg came up with no co-sign, KRIT came up with no co-sign, Danny Brown is coming up with no co-sign, Yelawolf didn't NEED a co-sign from Em to make dope music. what is stopping some underground NY cat making dope music, forging his own lane/sound, building a solid fan base?

that co-sign is the difference from being a local artist to national, to international exposure. It could mean connections with better producers or discounted studio time. Everyone you just named were vouched for or supported directly or indirectly by someone in the game.

Ir Gotti would've found someone else eventually. The new york hip hop scene is just awkward though. When New York artists talk about their struggles its like most people can't relate or don't give a shyt because the fan base is so much wider.
