He's not too expensive. We've already proven we can pay Revis while overpaying the crap out of mediocre players. What needs to change is the reallocation of the non-Revis money to the rest of the team.

That was a dumb move. If we're rebuilding, there is less of a reason for Cro to be here than Revis, and we just kicked the can on Cro's contract just to be a day late and a dollar short in free agency.

I can at least make an argument that Revis would still be here and still be good if and when the Jets got their shyt together. I can't say the same about Cro since he might not have higher value than he does right now.


When the secondary looks as putrid as it will look next season, we're gonna wonder why Cro is even here.

But they can't though. That will be proven next year. Revis allowed them to get away with having a crappy secondary. Cro can't do that. If Revis wasn't so important, why is Rex so adamant about keeping him? If it was up to Rex, Revis would get his money. This is all about Woody and him not wanting his ego bruised at the negotiating table. If Rex can scheme anything up, why are the Jets about to devote ANOTHER draft primarily to defense? If can scheme around this, why does Cro become so crucial to this defense? By the time our safeties and new corners get up to speed, Cro will be gone whereas Revis would have still been here.

Admittedly I'd like to see Bush and Allen get an opportunity if we're gonna ignore the secondary, but it comes back to depth and the fact that this team doesn't have any. Idzik's literally gonna have to pounce on every halfway decent UDFA imaginable.

Keep Revis:

2013 = $9M cap hit (with Revis playing here)
2014 = $9M cap hit (with Revis playing elsewhere)
2015 = Round 4, 1st pick in 2015*

Trade Revis:

2013 = $12M cap hit (with Revis playing elsewhere)
2014 = $0 cap hit
2013 = draft pick (?)
2014 = draft pick (?)

* (last pick in round 3 = 1st pick in round 4 in my book since a compensatory pick creates a pick that wasn't otherwise there)

Now if we can only get Sanchez to restructure his deal, make it a 1 year deal for 3.5 mil with incentives to hit his 8 mil mark.

If he improves, fine, pay the man. If not, you save 5 mil in cap space and cut your losses anyway.

Seems to me that Idzik should be approaching Sanchez about a restructure next....

We can actually cut Sanchez this year now. That's a good start.

I'd rather restructure him (obviously he has to agree) and let him compete. If I remember correctly, I think the savings of cutting him as opposed to keeping him on the roster is a measly 500k.
