It's all about calories. Carbs, protein, fat, processed are irrelevant if youre eating more than your proper maintenance. 3k of broccoli will make you gain weight more than 2k of twinkies.

People eat less filling foods which subconsciously allows them to eat more, and then add in excessive drinks and it's obvious

Most people don't eat enough protein or focus on it.

Look at certain foods, they make a big deal when is has 8g of protein in it, like that is amazing.

Most people eat way too many carbs and food that is also higher in fat, both are energy sources.

* I track my macros/food and keep my cals in check: protein at or over 200g, carbs 200-500g and fat 50-60g.

I can eat a good amount of food daily and can still lose body fat: if I keep my protein high fat low and carbs high.

* I can also lose body fat if I keep my protein high and fat high to moderate, but carbs low.

I track my step count: 10k a day or more daily and lift weights a few times a week.

I am 44 now and in great shape and this makes staying in shape relatively easy.

I found things I can put in rotation, eat and enjoy on a daily basis.

I get :flabbynsick: when I am just eating whatever, mostly high fat/carb foods and not focusing on protein.

Backstory, I used to eat cinnabon a lot on certain weekends, 2-4 a weekend going to the mall or whatever.

Once I started tracking, I realized they were 800 cals + each. (can not tell you the last time I have had one since)

I knew they weren't good nutritionally, but I did not know at the time what my intake was just on cinnabon.

1600-3200 cals just on Cinnabon, not including all the other food/shyt I used to eat on weekends too.

This is how you mess up a "clean week of eating" M-F with (I eat whatever on weekends).

Tons of people do the same sort of things, but with other foods, sodas, star bucks and alcohol, etc on a daily basis.

It adds up quick, especially when you aren't aware of what you are ingesting or don't know how to read food labels/serving sizes.

There was a study/conference done/held decades ago that basically ignored/hidden that sugar was the culprit so that fat could be blamed and sugar pushed as harmless....

The truth is far simpler-- calories.

For whatever reason, people refuse to accept the truth about weight gain, loss and maintenance: caloric deficit.

If you consume less calories than your body requires, you will lose weight. If you do the opposite, you will gain weight. This has been known for decades, and the only reason people playing is because we're trying to be sensitive to fat people.

Sugar is calorie dense; that means you can quite easily overconsume it, because only a little of it has a lot of calories. Look at the back of a honey bun package, and you'll see that small ass, one-time food has nearly 250-300 calories by itself.

On the flipside, an entire cup of spinach or broccoli has something like 30 calories. This is why eating a ton of veggies will make you lose weight, because you will be full, but nowhere near the amount of calories your body needs to maintain that weight.

Where exercise fits into this equation is two-fold-- cardiovascular exercise makes your body BURN calories, and stregnth training causes you to build muscle. Since muscle requires more calories simply to exist, building muscle while also burning fat through cadio is the best way to burn calories along with eating foods low in calories like spinach.

This is called body recomposition, and it's "difficult" for people to stick to because "spinach is nasty" (it's NOT), "donuts taste too good", and the modern person is incredibly lazy.

There, I just solved this mystery for you :russell:

It's gotta be the food. Increases in preservatives, over saturation of corn sugar thanks to government farming subsidies, fast food access compared to grocery store access in inner cities and rural areas, etc. Bad food and sugar being pumped to people. And it's not just an American problem.

This is unsustainable and will require government intervention at some point because the healthcare system will collapse.

I'm 42 years old and weigh 175lbs. When I was 22 years old I weighed...175lbs.

What's the difference? at 22 years old I could eat 2 big ass burgers and large fries, with a large soft drink and burn it off by doing nothing.

Now, I make a concerted effort to maintain my same weight...by NOT overeating and specifically not overeating garbage.

Phukin simple. Now science wants to step in and reinvent the wheel.

foh. :comeon:

It's the excessive amounts of carbs and sugar in processed food. They are really arguing the same problem because if you avoid carbs you automatically avoid most processed foods. In addition, processed food usually has no nutrients and needs to fortified with nutrients that don't properly absorb. Adding malnutrition to the problem.

It's really the process of constantly over eating fast burning fuel (carbs/sugar) that makes you fat. Because you are constant adding to the fat by over eating but never actually get to burning fat because you are only burning carbs.

Finally got my mom to stop with the carbs and she dropped 10+ lbs without calorie restriction in a month. She was shocked. By Christmas she'll probably lose 30lbs.

Let's not ever talk about the water weight and metabolic syndrome that excess carbs/sugar causes. shyt is straight poison.
All of this right here:salute:

Ignoring the calories in vs calories out, sugary foods, heavy carbs, etc, (which is obviously important to weight loss but hear me out). I’ve learned that there’s a massive psychological problem with 85% of people. They are incredibly mentally weak AND lazy as hell.

People just outright lazyyyy. Don’t wanna do nothing but sit down somewhere and sleep. Men and women. Since I’m back in the dating world I’ve noticed this a lot with women. If I ask what are you up to 99% of the time it’s going to be “oh just laying down/sleeping/watching tv”.

Laziness is the REAL disease because EVERYTHING starts in the mind. Mfers just laying around. My ex has a peloton treadmill IN THE BASEMENT of her house and still got fat :dahell:

It’s a pure breakdown psychologically.

Its crazy how fat = fattening in most peoples minds when its obvious most ills stem from carbs, especially sugar which is in absolutely everything.

That and processed food is specially modded to make it addictive to ensure that re-up. Boggles the mind that people think their big corporate/pharma/government daddy will look out for them when thats the same one that profits from their pain and got them hooked in the first place.

Remember, these are the peeps that added sugar into cigarettes. Know why? The cig takes 10 seconds to generate a hit but the sugar speeds that up to less than half a second. Really makes you wonder about the ubiquitous white devil...

Well this was an opinion piece on the New York Times.

Not BY the New York Times.

My question is: if you believe it's all just personal responsibility and nothing else, then you have to believe that something has fundamentally changed for human beings across the entire globe in the last 40 years. So, what would that be? Because this is a problem everywhere. Not just America.

To be clear: I think it's a very complex problem. And the scientists couldn't really come to a definitive conclusion either.
Come on man. This is TLR. People aren’t interested in a nuanced intellectual discourse on the matter. It’s posting Larry Holmes smileys and that’s about it. Humans have an innate desire to feel superior to others. The obesity issue allows some to do so. Therefore the idea that it’s not a personal failing takes that away from them - like how they know they would look like a POS making fun of the disabled as that is beyond their control. Obesity being a personal choice allows them to still feel good making fun of them.

How many black men see a woman and label her as 'thick'?:manny:

We can blame sugar and sodium all day long, but people lose weight every day. There are no excuses, stop fukking these fat ass broads and they'll lose weight.

The thing is, people still manage to lose weight

Simple Sugar and processed foods.
Gotta remember that all carbs are sugars. The simple ones are turned into energy more quickly and if that energy isn't used it turns into fat.
