L&O and NYU are in the same universe? :wtf:

If they're doing a NYU with the original cast, then I don't have high hopes for it. Especially if it's on ABC. Does ABC do .... gritty? Or even "ethnic"?
I have no idea how they will do it but all these other shows have received revivals with the originals and ignored elements of why cast members weren't on the show or why it ended including deaths so I dont see why they cannot do the same.

THIS!

Why is Hollywood so fukkin UNORIGINAL? So they couldn't think up some new, innovative shyt that they had to resort to retreads AGAIN? Y'all already mentioned the fact that so many of these old shows keep getting brought back....

Listen, man....you can REMAKE NY Undercover, but you absolutely cannot RECAPTURE the VIBE which made that show what it was. It was more than just a cop show....it was a MOVEMENT. Hip-Hop culture PROMINENTLY featured in primetime television. The show matched the era we were living in...you can't replicate that shyt, B.

These cats gon' have Young Nudy and Ella Mae up in Natalie's....:stopitslime:

Whole cast is washed. I would rather some network remaster the old episodes, get the rights to the music and broadcast those. There’s ZERO way this new version works with a gentrified ass NYC, trash music of this current era and how do they avoid it looking like another Law & Order spin off?

Ice T was a villain in NYU and he's a cop on Law & Order, so I don't think they are in the same universe.

Nope they are they use to do crossovers with the psychiatrist from all the law and order shows. You can play two different characters in a shows universe it literally happens all the time Anthony Anderson played two different characters in the law in order universe as did one of the assistant district attorneys on law and order svu.

Yep alongside Chicago PD, Homicide and In Plain Sight, possibly the Wire (Munch), X-Files and Luther are sorta shout outs well the Luther one is not sure about the X-Files as that would make the Simpsons a part of the universe as well.....kinda :jbhmm:

Bout time they revived this though, could have picked something worse to reboot/retool

Wait In Plain Sight is part of the dikk Wolf universe too???

THis. Repped.

Shows like NYU, Martin, Living Single, A Different World, and others captured the "urban black 20 something" zeitgeist of the 90s. As the natural evolution of "The Cosby Show", Black Characters on these shows were portrayed as a mix of intelligent, metropolitan, accomplished, attractive (:dame:), and in healthy relationships; while also portraying traditional Black character tropes such as being suave, funny and slightly buffoonish, and demonstrating biting and pragmatic wit. And living in the city, around other people of color, was portrayed as this cool and normal thing. A far cry from showing Black neighborhoods as poor and dysfunctional like the Jeffersons and Good Times.

And of course, these shows for the first time in TV history featured Hip Hop and RnB artists :blessed:, further reflecting the essence of what young Black people were listening to.

Rebooting NYU might bring in viewers for a taste of nostalgia, but in no way, shape, or form could it ever replicate that feeling of "wow they're actually getting us" that the original gave. Especially that in 2018, Black culture is at lowest moment as far being defining.
