THis. Repped.

Shows like NYU, Martin, Living Single, A Different World, and others captured the "urban black 20 something" zeitgeist of the 90s. As the natural evolution of "The Cosby Show", Black Characters on these shows were portrayed as a mix of intelligent, metropolitan, accomplished, attractive (:dame:), and in healthy relationships; while also portraying traditional Black character tropes such as being suave, funny and slightly buffoonish, and demonstrating biting and pragmatic wit. And living in the city, around other people of color, was portrayed as this cool and normal thing. A far cry from showing Black neighborhoods as poor and dysfunctional like the Jeffersons and Good Times.

And of course, these shows for the first time in TV history featured Hip Hop and RnB artists :blessed:, further reflecting the essence of what young Black people were listening to.

Rebooting NYU might bring in viewers for a taste of nostalgia, but in no way, shape, or form could it ever replicate that feeling of "wow they're actually getting us" that the original gave. Especially that in 2018, Black culture is at lowest moment as far being defining.
Facts and repped.

Excellently put. :salute:

ABC doing the reboot. Oh lord its gonna be a swirl athon.

Watch them make the two main cops women and the black one is dark skin with a white husband and very light skin daughter who dates a white boy.

The female latin cop gonna be a bull dagger with a white girlfriend.

And the chief is gonna be a sassy gay black man.:hhh:

Like I said in the thread in the film room this show will not work in this era. New York culture was different in the 90s compared to now. The New York swagger, fashion, music, etc was on a whole different level.

Can you imagine New York Undercover with skinny jeans, colorful dreads, and a soundtrack of Cardi B, ASAP Rocky, Migos, etc. :scust:
