New York Murder Rates Down for 2012 -- Daily Intelligencer

With murder rates on the decline in our fair city for some time, the Daily News now reports that we've only had 414 homicides so far this year. That's 18.5 percent less for 2012 than the year before. What's more, the drop may keep the murder count below even suicide numbers, which, according to the city Health Department, is about 475 New Yorkers annually. Police commissioner Ray Kelly is of course "thankful" for the numbers (possibly the lowest in 50 years) even though "the population is as high as it’s ever been." Like he did in November, Kelly still credits the city's controversial "stop-and-frisk" policy.

Murder rates are down all around the country by huge percentages. Except in a few cities like Bmore, Detroit and Chicago where the murder rate is down by smaller percentages.

Suit was crazy back when I was a child in the late 80s and coming of age in the 90s. 2200 plus murders in NY alone.

People say Chicago is crazy now but they had 500 murders. Just like in NY in the early 90s they was having over 2000 a year. If we had social networking back then it would have seemed like hell on earth

NYC is becoming closer to being civilized.....This is a good thing. Bloomberg doesnt go for real solutions tho. he goes by the numbers and it works regardless of a 13 year old kid having a record for something small as hoping a turn stile. More police presence and the hustle of giving out tickets for small stuff has helped Bloombergs numbers.....poverty, crime, drug use and prostitution hasnt stopped.
