Here's my first experience of 50. I remember reading an article about Em signing a dude named 50 cent, and I remember after that I was trying to download that J-LO/Nas record that was out at the time but the version I downloaded had 50 on it. That was the original version and that was the first song I heard from him.
After that I came across a link to a freestyle by 50 over Eminem's "Soldier" beat and thinking it was dope. So on one Sunday morning I went to this flea market that my mom and I always went to on Sundays and they sold bootleg cd's and shyt... and they had No Mercy, No Fear... I copped it and I remember the first time I listened to it.. the shyt was amazing.. that tape to me is more classic than GRODT itself. I bumped the hell out of that tape during the summer of 02. Like one dude before mentioned when I first heard the tape I didn't know which one was Banks, which one was Yayo and who they were on the cover.
To me, even though 50 was signed to Em, I never actually expected him to blow up and be a huge star.. I remember sleeping on the couch one morning and my little brother waking me up and saying "50 Cent's on MTV.." and looking at the TV and seeing the Wanksta video for the first time.. and to me it was like a

moment. It was seeing someone who was up until that point an underground artist that it seemed only I at least in my area was listening to actually cross over to the mainstream and that was dope. I know he was was getting mad love and play over NY and shyt, but for me it was like seeing that one artist that you thought you discovered finally break through.
