All season we been getting smacked with discourse over lower ratings and viewer engagement being down and everyone talking down on the product
The playoffs everyone has been raving about the product and it seems engagement is up.
It's not a me thing at all. Do you watch 70+ games of just one team? People seem to want to get to the playoffs faster and find ways to increase the stakes in regular season games. Less games does this.
Then the players should put their money where their mouth is and vote for less games on the next CBA. Not a single one, even the most injury prone player, will even consider doing that though... because the mere thought of abandoning an 82 game season's worth of revenue and the lucrative tv deals included with it is unbearable for them.
The players and the union representing their interests unanimously vote to ratify and continue the tradition of an 82 regular game season, every time the opportunity arises during collective bargaining. Because they can't imagine and won't consider living without the paycheck that comes with it. If the idea of more rest/shorter seasons and playoffs for the sake of health is so important to them... then they need stand on it and accept the monetary sacrifice that inevitably comes with carrying that change out. If they're unwilling to do that they have zero grounds to stand and complain on. Especially if they're already missing 30+ games in the regular season to start with.
