That would mean the game is being played at a dramatically more physical and athletic level than it was before. But folks aren't trying to be honest about that so :hubie:

More physical? Today's scoring average is 113ppg. In the 1970-71 season, the league scoring average was 112ppg.

Mind you, in 1970 they played in uncomfortable ass canvas sneakers, every arena did NOT have air conditioning, accommodations for people who were extremely tall was even more terrible than it is now. Back then, if you didn't play you didn't eat. The arenas were much more virulently racist, and some players still drove themselves to games. Also, the advancements in sports-medicine technology was way more primitive.

Yeah so that tells you how low impact and low intensity the game was compared to now that athletes could play 82 games in chucks with no air conditioning and drive themselves to the game. Modern medicine and training didn't go backwards and create less durable athletes.

Wherever nikkas need to be told on
He played 50 games this year. He has no merit to stand on.

Edit: my bad, 51. So he played 65 games out of a possible 96 (82 reg & 14 playoffs).
He had various injuries but that’s irrelevant.

Man is saying an extra day between playoff games would help and y’all are in disbelief like you have playoff experience to draw from. :mjtf:

How was it low impact? they weren't running? They were scoring 112ppg slowly walking the ball up? They weren't jumping for rebounds, jumping to shoot, jumping to block shots?

I posted this last week -
I was actually thinking the other day when talking about the lack of rest teams are getting and the fatigue they're playing under with this playoff schedule, that I hope it doesn't result in a catastrophic injury.

Not that we can determine exactly how that contributed to Tatum's injury, but I definitely think the NBA should change it next season and spread the games out more.

The level of intensity these guys are playing at, compounded by all the space they need to guard, there needs to be some kind of adjustment to the schdueling where we're getting them at their best, not only for game quality (which has dipped from the regular season), but for the sake of the health of the players.
It seems AG holds the exact same opinion, in all regards. We’ve still got three more series’ to go, so let’s hope we don’t get any more cautionary tales.

112 ppg in a league with no 3 pointers, no 4 point plays, no flagrant fouls.

:jbhmm:

Also, if the players want more days off in the playoffs, are they willing to have more back to backs in the regular season?

There wasn't even a three point line in the 70's. Everything was ran out the post and they covered less ground in the half court since with no 3-pointer everything was played closer to the basket.

Since there was no 3 point line and all points counted the same, there was no incentive to create complex off ball half-court actions so players without the ball could rest a bit more while a player with an advantage got to work in the post. The half-court incentive was to create post scoring opportunities for the big and play off whatever they created inside. There was also a lot less lateral movement in the game (which is where most these injuries are coming from), it was a more sturdy, up-right, north-south movement because with no 3-pointer fast breaks had more value so it was a lot of just un-touched sprinting end to end.

I mean it’s for injury prevention? It’s not like he’s saying they can’t handle it or are too tired. Everyone hates injuries in the playoffs. Seems like a win for everyone.

NBA and the NHL work a similar schedule. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't hear this "rest" talk for hockey players

These players (and fans) need to get a grip and man up.

They want to make $30+ million a year.
They want extra days to rest
They want less games but get paid the same

Then these online idiots want to bring up the schedule in the 1985 West finals. Well lets look at the 1985 regular season in order to have those days:
Using the 1984-1985 Knicks schedule: from Oct 30th to Dec 1st (33 calendar days), they played NINETEEN games, including 3 different 4 game/ 5 day stretches. This is with 1985 planes, not 2025 planes.

Also, the messenger crying only played 51 of 82 games this year. Should be well rested.

Its the playoffs. Its supposed to be tougher. You want rest- win the series in 4 or 5 games. Or develop a bench to play 8-10 solid guys. Quit the bytchin.
