Newspaper Runs Op-Ed About Obama With N-Word In The Headline

A local New York newspaper ran an op-ed that used the N-word in its headline about President Barack Obama.


The op-ed, in the monthly West View News of the West Village in New York, by James Lincoln Collier, was actually not a piece criticizing Obama. Collier argued that "far right voters hate Obama because he is black."


"The simple truth is that there is still in America an irreducible measure of racism," the op-ed said. "America's increasing tolerance of far-right opinion has made racism more acceptable."


The New York Post printed an image (pictured) of the headline with the n-word blurred out.


The West View News also ran a column below Collier's by Alvin Hall, an African-American columnist, titled "This headline offends me."


According to West View News editor George Capsis Collier was able to convince him to print the headline even though the editorial staff had reservations.


"The editorial staff continues to object," Capsis told the Post. "In this article, however, Jim reminded me that The New York Times avoids using the word which convinced me that West View should."


Collier, according to Capsis, wanted the headline to "shock us into accepting that there are people who believe and use this outrageous word."

A side of me is kinda glad they used that for the headline. Why p*ssyfoot around what anyone with common sense and street instincts already know? I don't need to browse st0rmfr0nt to know why a segment of the American populace really dislikes Obama. Still, one gets the feeling that even those who don't consider themselves racist, and would never admit to dislking Obama based on race alone, are likely not cognizant of their own bias. At times, it might take a headline like this to smack a little reality into them, or even give them that extra encouragement to admit how they really feel instead of hiding it from themselves.

I visited their website, but the article isn't posted yet, and I guess it won't be posted until next month. The reason I wanted to see it online, was to browse the reader comments because that's a great fishing headline. I imagine some who post will attempt to shield their own racial bias' but typically you can see through the code words.

I'm on the fence, I dont think the title is a good idea, but the title fits the story tho

the article is saying that a lot of white people will never respect or accept obama because he's black, hence the title, which encapsulates what these people think of him
