Yep, making the divisions smaller is the main reason for this,

So why do you have such a problem with division winners getting in but not getting home games if they don't win more games than the other teams?

yea.

its only really become a problem in the last 10 years with the division expansion. before that, it was a rarity.

warm weather teams have been on the road in terrible weather throughout the history of the nfl in the playoffs and has produce some memorable moments. you either suck it up and brave the weather or you lose.

every team play 16 games, either win your division or you face going on the road

yea but by winning a ridiculous amount of regular season games, you deserve the right to stay home in the 1st round, rather than having to travel across the country to cater to a 8-win team that really shouldnt even be in the playoffs.

the whole "you have to win your division" logic is robotic and stupid. all divisions arent created equal. teams getting in only because they won their division is one thing, but when you cater to them and give them home field......thats a bit too much.

and im glad that the nfl is going to change this now that they see that its becoming a real problem.

i dunno, i like the added incentive to win your division. are 8 win teams winning their division often enough to really justify this rule change?

id have to see like 3 straight years of an 8 win team winning their division, then an 11+ win team having to travel to them in the playoffs for me to change my stance.

You can argue that the 49s/Saints should be hosting at home but the bottom line is they didn't win the games they needed to win their division. And that's on nobody but themselves because you play division rivals twice a year :ehh:

On the other hand you can laugh at the thought of how a 10-6 team is missing the playoffs while some joke of a team at 8-7-1 is hosting a home game :russ:

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
So the NFL basically wants to reward good divisions. That's what it boils down to. And it really comes down to ONE team getting "screwed" and it doesn't happen every year so I say leave it alone.

:comeon: San Francisco is playing on the road because they lost 4 games against teams in the playoffs. (1-4 with their only win coming against Seattle) You look at their schedule and they feasted on bad teams.

I don't know, one of these days an 8-8 or 7-9 team will win the bowl and I will have a problem with that. 8-8 is not a good team.

Ok, then that means they were the better team by the end of the season. If those so call better teams had taken care of their business in the playoff then this wouldn't have happened now would it? :ld:

Yall are forgetting the fact that just because you have a better record, doesn't mean you're a better team. Do you really think GB wouldn't have won like 12 games if Rodgers was healthy? Hell they already got 8 with him missing half the season.

It evens out in the end.

When you really know it's stupid is the fact that before they shrunk the divisions, the best wild card team was seeded 4th and had a home game in the wild card round as their reward for their season.

There are years when a 2nd placed team in a division is clearly a top 3 team in the conference and they get no home games now. That is silly.

:camby: They barely made the playoffs; their seeding should reflect that.

they should only have 4 divisions

afc east & afc west

nfc east & nfc west

and split teams up that way.. so u have 2 teams already getting byes followed by the other 5 teams with winning records make the playoffs

only fans of sorry ass teams want to say there teams won a division title instead of saying they won there conference

:beli:THIS IS HAPPENING OFTEN
BECAUSE THEY EXPANDED EACH CONFERENCE TO 4 DIVISIONS IN 2002.

THE TOP WILD CARD SEED IN EACH CONFERENCE USED TO GET A HOME GAME.

GO BACK TO 3 DIVISIONS...NOT THIS STUPID IDEA

i wouldnt go that far.

the divisions are fine.

its the playoff format that needs to be restructured.

there is an added incentive for winning your division. an automatic playoff berth.

and this happens often dog. its been a regular occurrence since they added more divisions.

it does happen every year. and the 49ers arent even the only team getting screwed THIS WEEKEND.. the saints are getting screwed as well. the 49ers thing is just a bit more ridiculous.

and are we gonna act like the 49ers werent dealing with injuries and DNPs this year?

they feasted on bad teams that didnt make the playoffs like who? the cardinals who won 10 games?

and didnt they beat the packers too?

lets be real. the packers werent exactly setting the league on fire before rodgers, cobb & them went down.

and lets knock act like the 49ers werent dealing with injuries as well.
