He got the co player of the year bc of his sack totals, which were obviously enhanced by playing with great interior talent- as he graded out terribly at the combine. He probably would have been the worst athlete in the league in terms of DE's.
Probably true. But he was still a decent player in college. I think Pete is moreso speaking to the people who want to associate every accomplishment Michael Sam has had, to preferential treatment towards him being gay, but in reality he was just a decent Football player who took advantage of a good situation as far as having interior help around him. Everyone's trying to push this "He got preferential treatment because he's gay" narrative as if he didn't collect those sacks on his own.

Well so much for being discriminated against based on his sexual preferences

Seemed to have gotten special preferential treatment based on his sexual preferences.

Not to be compared to a Jackie Robinson who needed special assistance to get into the mlb but was a really good player being discriminated against

But this guy sucked (pause) and got special treatment for headlines smh

My biggest problem the entire time was that the media tried to make it seem like he was the victim, when he actually benefited from the shyt just like you said. Considering how quickly he was bounced out of the league, he may have went undrafted w/o the media circus. Story was never about his skill and always about his preferences.

And the whole time dude is eating up the attention and using it to his advantage, but when he finds out about this story throws out the "i'm not surprised :francis:" like he's mad about it.

Sports journalists gotta be the most dishonest self serving mfers in a world. :scust:

read the fukking thread title, how the hell is that not preferential treatment. Dude got sacks from running free and playing next to a line made up of first rounders aside from himself. He was the worst athlete at the combine and in spite of all that the nfl forced the rams to draft him so they can air his nauseating draft moment for a week straight on ESPN.

If that aint preferential treatment what is? please name some other players the NFL coerced teams into drafting because this situation seems rather unique:sas1:

Nah all these Southern states is tryin' to pass anti-gay laws now. They ain't giving a homo defensive player of the year in their beloved SEC conference. GTFOH!! :martin:
This goes beyond those who make up the SEC's fanbase...this went into a national politico/social campaign...ESPN purposely caught Sam kissin buddy (:sadcam:) on his draft night...his winning the sec defensive co title only gave them more wood for the fire...I guarantee there is some lgbt group he aligned with in college that helped him considerably ...from meeting other gays at the university in power positions, government positions. boosters and finally local and national media...an award doesn't guarantee u a spot on an NFL squad because the NFL is a business....but Sam made it because he brought a "message"...and the agenda wanted that message shown and the NFL wanted to have an example of being gay friendly...without really being gay friendly, like "well we gave em' a shot:ld:...even let him kiss his boyfriend on our draft show, get off our backs:ufdup:"...when the NFL is having to pull these kinds of stunts to satisfy a group or body...that is an agenda, an agenda for the gays to integrate more openly into mainstream society (what better way than the NFL) and for the NFL to never have to go heads up with the lgbt movement by making a move to come off superficially embracing. The NFL probably intended on using Sam as soon as they heard he could possibly make it.

Would any of you be surprised? NFL is a business. Gay is a new demographic. Likely tons of gay viewers, some gay players who felt ostracized prior to Sam getting drafted.

I mean it was obvious as fukk that they drafted him for non football reasons. He was almost Mr.Irrelevant before getting scooped by his hometown team which didn't have a need at his position :comeon:

That being said I figured they did it of their own volition, just being nice. If the NFL corporate had anything to do with forcing their hand then :scusthov:

I'm strictly talking about his playing days at Mizzou. Yeah after the season was over and it was draft time the whole world came to know that he was gay.. all that coverage from the media was disgusting.. literally and figuratively. I hated that sh*t. But I'm just gauging on whether his career at Missouri was legit. Cause cats are making it seem like he got those sacks and tackles in his senior year cause he was gay and the opposing teams laid down for him sort of like how Brett Favre fell to the ground so Michael Strahan could get the sack record.

He was dumb anyways cause he didn't focus on football he was into all the other bullsh*t like kissing his dude on tv, reality shows, and other sh*t outside of becoming a better player. I'm just trying to get a real perspective on his play at Missouri where he won defensive player of the year

Nah I'm not saying he didn't perform on the team...he was apart of why mizzou got biz that year...facts, but how many collegiate players have great 4 years and become accountants...most and he should have been one of them. I just think it was justified to give him a shot and also seemingly beneficial to the NFL and ESPN to support his "journey". But you're right...dude wasn't out there pickin grass blades...he certainly played.

He got drafted in the 7th round, and bounced from practice squad to practice squad, and is now currently out of the NFL. Yet you people keep bringing his name up. Many athletes get drafted but end up not being good enough to play in league. Yet this specific one irks people. It's over....

But people don't want it to be over. They wanna complain as if Michael Sam's getting plastered all over the TV. As if he's being forced down our throats.

You won't get a real perspective on here on his career at Mizzou. Everyone on here is just as biased towards being anti-lgbt as a gay person would be towards being pro-lgbt. They'll downplay anything Michael Sams did at Mizzou the same way gay people hype him up.

Wonder what fukkery will come out of this :ohhh:
It was announced Wednesday that the Los Angeles Rams would be the team featured on "Hard Knocks" this season. But one report suggests the franchise made a deal with the league to avoid being the team featured on the show in 2014.

Longtime NFL reporter Howard Balzer, in a report for 590 The Fan in St. Louis, writes that the NFL allowed the Rams --€“ then based in St Louis -- to avoid the HBO series because they agreed to draft Michael Sam.

Sam, of course, announced he was gay prior to the 2014 draft, creating a flurry of speculation about if/when he would be drafted. As the reigning SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Sam was considered a late-round talent. Balzer reports the NFL didn't want Sam to go undrafted, so it made a deal with the Rams, who selected him in the seventh round (249th overall). The Rams were just 90 miles down the road from the University of Missouri, where Sam played in college.

Balzer notes that Rams head coach Jeff Fisher was opposed to having his team featured on "Hard Knocks" in 2014, making it odd that he would embrace the opportunity just two years later.

Fisher addressed the situation on ESPN's "Mike and Mike" on Thursday. Here's part of that conversation, via Pro Football Talk:

“That in itself is absolutely absurd, it’s 100 percent incorrect,” Fisher said. “I was really taken aback by those comments. It’s insulting, from my standpoint, as it relates to Michael. We had three seventh-round picks. When we drafted Michael he was the best player on the board. Who in their right mind would think that you give up a draft choice to avoid doing something like that?”

Sam was cut by the Rams before the start of the 2014 regular season and then joined the Cowboys' practice squad. After being released by Dallas, he signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League but played in only one game before leaving the team.

Did the Rams avoid 'Hard Knocks' in 2014 by drafting Michael Sam?

i'm not surprised.. publicity is everything.. and it lowkey helped the rams with the gay community.. it only helped them.
